Discover El Super Taco

If you’ve ever cruised down 6006 S Peoria Ave, Tulsa, OK 74105, United States looking for something satisfying, affordable, and packed with flavor, El Super Taco is the kind of place that stops you in your tracks. I first walked in on a random Tuesday afternoon, not expecting much more than a quick bite. Instead, I found myself coming back the very next week with friends who had heard me rave about their street-style tacos.

The vibe is casual and welcoming, the kind of diner where regulars greet the staff by name and newcomers are treated like they’ve been coming for years. The menu is refreshingly straightforward, focused on authentic Mexican staples-tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, and combo plates. But don’t let the simplicity fool you. Every item feels intentional, built around bold spices, fresh ingredients, and traditional cooking techniques.

I’ve tried the carne asada tacos more times than I can count. The beef is grilled over high heat, giving it that slightly smoky char while keeping the inside tender. According to the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, high-heat grilling helps lock in juices while enhancing flavor through caramelization. You can taste that science at work here. Add fresh cilantro, diced onions, and a squeeze of lime, and it’s the kind of bite that makes you pause mid-conversation.

One thing that stands out is portion size. You’re not leaving hungry. Their burritos are generously stuffed with rice, beans, protein, and house-made salsa. Speaking of salsa, I once asked how they achieved such balanced heat. The cook explained they blend roasted tomatoes with dried chiles and adjust spice levels in small test batches before serving. It’s a simple but thoughtful process, and it shows. Food scientists often point out that roasting tomatoes enhances natural sweetness while deepening umami flavors, and that balance is exactly what you get here.

Reviews from locals frequently mention consistency. That’s not easy in the restaurant world. The National Restaurant Association notes that maintaining food quality across shifts is one of the biggest operational challenges for small eateries. Yet during my visits-weekday lunch, Friday dinner rush, even a late Saturday stop-the tacos tasted just as good every time. That kind of reliability builds trust.

Beyond tacos, the al pastor deserves attention. The pork is marinated with spices and pineapple, then cooked until slightly crisp on the edges. It’s sweet, savory, and just spicy enough. If you’re unsure what to order, start there. Pair it with horchata, which is creamy without being overly sugary.

What also impressed me was how clean and organized the space feels. You can often see the kitchen area, and everything looks methodical. As someone who has worked in hospitality, I notice small details-how ingredients are stored, how quickly tables are cleared, how staff communicate. These operational habits matter. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention emphasizes that visible cleanliness and safe food handling directly influence customer confidence. Here, those standards seem taken seriously.

Prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality and portion size. In a time when dining out can feel expensive, finding a local spot that delivers authentic flavors without stretching your budget is refreshing. Families, college students, and office workers all seem to gather here, which says a lot about its accessibility.

Of course, like any busy diner, wait times can stretch during peak hours. I’ve had to wait about 15 minutes during a lunch rush, but the turnover is steady and worth it. Parking around the Peoria Avenue location is manageable, though it can fill up quickly on weekends.

If you’re browsing reviews and wondering whether it lives up to the hype, my experience says yes. The combination of bold seasoning, generous servings, consistent preparation, and friendly service makes it more than just another taco joint. It’s a reliable neighborhood favorite where the menu delivers exactly what it promises-fresh, flavorful Mexican comfort food done right.

  • El Super Taco is the real deal! Hands down the best street tacos in Tulsa — the carne asada and al pastor are and the green salsa is next level. Whether it’s late night or lunch time, the flavor is always on point and the service is quick and friendly. Funny enough, I ended up here after my truck had some issues and Miklos Towing got me off the road and dropped me nearby. Turned a bad day into a great one thanks to some tacos and a solid towing team. If you’re looking for Tulsa’s best tacos, El Super Taco is a must — and if you ever need a tow before you get there, Miklos Towing will take care of you like a pro.
